I began studying Muay Thai as part of my Jeet Kune Do curriculum on June 13th, 1993 with Khun Kru Ricky Amador and Sifu Dwight Woods. During that time I also studied Jun Fan Gun Fu, Filipino Kali, and French Savate. I began teaching at the Unified Martial Art Academy while competing in Muay Thai. After eight years of study, on November 4th, 2001, I received the title of "Khun Kru" under Ajarn Siruchai "Chai" Sirisute, founder of the Thai Boxing Association (T.B.A.). In 2003 I began teaching Muay Thai on my own at Fight Club in Cocout Grove. It was there that I met 4-time world champion Eric "El Tigre" Castanos and began training with him. Under Tigre's tutelage I honed my Muay Thai and learned The Sweet Science of Boxing. I held five belts in 2006 when I retired from fighting. I then followed my passion and started to find a way to teach Muay Thai full time. In pursuit of greater challenge and personal fulfillment I moved to New York City. While training clients at the original Crunch Gym on 13th Street next to Union Square, the New York Post named me "New York's Toughest Trainer." |

I became involved in the martial arts at the age of nine, when I took my first Judo class. Eight years later, after having achieved the rank of brownbelt, injuries forced me to take a leave from grappling. In 1999, inspired by the legendary Royce Gracie's victories over much larger opponents in The Ultimate Fighting Championship, I began my journey into the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. After five years of training, I was awarded my purple belt by Matt Thornton of Straight Blast Gym International. I was later awarded my brown belt by Luis Gutierrez of Straight Blast Gym International/So Flo Jiu-Jitsu, who also presented me with my black belt on May 30, 2009. Because I am not a natural athelete, I focus on giving myself an edge by perfecting my technique. I concentrate on the tiny details that add efficiency to all of my movements. I also emphasize movement, fluidity, and innovation as complements to a strong foundation of perfectly-executed basic techniques. I strive to teach this fluid, detail-oriented approach to Jiu-Jitsu to all of my students. My goal is not just to teach them how to defend themselves, but also help them exercise, grow, and express themselves through their Jiu-Jitsu. Notable Tournament Wins: NAGA advanced gi (purple, brown, black) champion Bud Cup Quest for the Best brown belt champion NAGA purple Belt champion Grapplers Quest advanced no gi silver medalist NAGA advanced no gi silver and bronze medalist 2011 NAGA expert division champion | |||
